Rickshaws have been removed from the main roads of Old Delhi and CNG buses have finally been introduced. Initially the residents were not sure about this move but after a day they seem happy.
Ever since the metro has come to this part of Delhi there has been talk about improving the traffic situation since more people are now landing up in Chandni Chowk. The rickshaws were slowing down the traffic it seems.
But several people argued that removing them would mean thousands of rickshaw pullers would be out of jobs. The solution that was worked out kept the rickshaws out of the main roads which have been taken over the small buses.
This is model many areas could follow throughout the city. From Karol Bagh to GK. The rickshaws could run within the colonies while buses and cars could run on the main roads.
Places like Vasant Kunj, Dwarka and Rohini could use this combination of CNG buses and rickshaws since the DTC service is not very good within the colonies.
Let's see how this system lasts in Old Delhi.
