Access to the disabled

Hindustan Times has a page long write up on making the metro disable friendly. (OK I know the link goes to the front page, just click on page 8 on the left bar.)

India has one of the highest populations of disabled. This does not mean that they are all sitting at home. Many of them go to work and use public facilities on a daily basis. But more often than not they come up against situations where they do not have access to certain facilities.

All public buildings and areas in Delhi suffer from this problem with maybe Dilli Haat being an exception. In the case of the Metro since a direct issue of safety is involved DMRC needs to move fast.

As more and more people use the metro disabled people will also join in. Time we thought what we can do for them.
